How to Care for Your BJJ Gear

Proper care for your Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) gear extends its lifespan and maintains its quality. Here are some tips on how to take care of your gear effectively.

  1. Washing: Wash your Gi after every use to prevent bacteria buildup and maintain hygiene. Use cold water and a gentle detergent to avoid damaging the fabric. Avoid bleach, as it can weaken the fibers and cause discoloration. Check out our durable and easy-care Gis. Shop our Gis.

  2. Drying: Air drying is the best method to prevent shrinkage and maintain the integrity of your Gi. Avoid using a dryer, as the heat can cause the fabric to shrink and weaken. Hang your Gi in a well-ventilated area to dry.

  3. Storage: Store your Gi in a dry place to prevent mold and mildew growth. Avoid leaving it in your gym bag for extended periods, as this can create a breeding ground for bacteria.

  4. Repairs: Fix any tears or loose threads immediately to prevent further damage. Small repairs can significantly extend the lifespan of your Gi.

  5. Hygiene: Maintaining personal hygiene is crucial to keep your gear in good condition. Shower before and after training, keep your nails trimmed and wash your hands frequently. This helps prevent the spread of bacteria and keeps your gear clean.

  6. Rotation: If you train frequently, consider having multiple Gis to rotate between sessions. This allows each Gi to dry thoroughly and reduces wear and tear from frequent use.
